RE at Brigstock

Believe ~ Grow ~ Flourish

“Jesus came to give us life, life in all its fullness”

At Brigstock Primary, we believe that it is important for all our pupils to learn from and about religion, so that they can understand the world around them. The aim of Religious Education in our school is to help children to acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the other principal religions represented in Great Britain and the wider world; to appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and behaviour, develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues and enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Religious Education is taught throughout the school in such a way as to reflect the overall aims, values, and philosophy of the school.

The teaching and implementation of the Religious Education Curriculum at Brigstock Primary School is taught following the Peterborough Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education alongside the Understanding Christianity units of work. Sequences of lessons are carefully planned using progression mapping within and across key stage phases. Key questions act as the driver for growth within each unit and inspire active learning and challenge for all. Opportunities for cross-curricular learning are identified and explored through our wider curriculum.

The children at Brigstock Primary enjoy learning about and from other religions. Through their RE learning the children are able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world. As such, RE is essential in enabling the children at Brigstock to understand beliefs and be enabled to grow and flourish into citizens of an ever changing world.
