Believe ~ Grow ~ Flourish

“Jesus came to give us life, life in all its fullness” John 10:10

At Brigstock Latham’s CE Primary School, our music curriculum is designed to enable our children to develop a love of music whilst increasing their self-confidence, creativity and experiencing a sense of achievement.  We believe that music education should be fun and engaging for all concerned, and that every child is a born musician. We hope to foster a life-long love of music by exposing them to diverse musical experiences and igniting a passion for music. By listening and responding to different musical styles, finding their voices as singers and performers and as composers all children will have the belief that they will become confident, reflective musicians.

Through our use of Charanga, we follow a spiral approach to musical learning which responds to the national requirements for musical education due to our mixed age classes. Within each unit of learning, students revisit existing knowledge and skills and then build upon and extend these incrementally. In this manner, learning is consolidated and augmented, allowing for increasing musical confidence, while constantly being gently challenged to grow in their musical knowledge and expertise. Each unit is based around a core song around which the other activities are then linked to as we believe that singing should be at the heart of our Music curriculum.

Further enrichment opportunities in music allow our children the chance to flourish within this area and are an essential part of the music curriculum. They provide children with extended time to focus and deepen their learning. Children are offered a first access musical instrument project, NMPAT instrument lessons, choir club and will be participating in Young Voices in the coming years. Children also engage in weekly Singing Worship which in turn contribute to our Harvest, Christmas and Easter celebrations as well as our Nativity and end of year performances.
