Design and Technology

Believe ~ Grow ~ Flourish
“Jesus came to give us life, life in all its fullness”

The Design Technology curriculum at Brigstock Primary school aims to foster creativity, innovation, and practical problem-solving skills among students. Through engaging and hands-on experiences, we aspire to develop young learners into confident, resourceful individuals who can apply their knowledge and skills to design, make, and evaluate products that meet real-world needs.

The teaching of the Design Technology Curriculum at Brigstock Primary School is based on the units outlined in the Design Technology Association. Our curriculum will inspire students to be curious about the world around them and how things are designed and made. We want to nurture their imagination by encouraging them to ask questions, experiment, and explore materials, tools, and processes in a safe and supportive environment. Students will acquire and develop practical skills in designing and making products. They will learn to select appropriate materials, use tools safely, and employ techniques to bring their ideas to life. This will include learning basic woodworking, textile, and electronics skills, as well as understanding how to evaluate and improve their work.

By the end of each Key Stage, our children will have developed a range of skills in Design Technology, building on their previous learning and becoming more confident in designing, making, and evaluating products.
